Education Exchange Search

Overview

Adobe Education Exchange is an online community for educators to share their teaching and learning resources and connect with the Adobe Education community. This platform has been online since the mid-2000s.

Through my employer, Wrecking Ball Studio & Labs (an advertising agency), I was assigned the task to create a new experience for the search functionality. I wireframed and mapped out the approach. Emphasis was given to the ability to filter and refine search results.

Adobe was pleased with the finished product. My Education Exchange Search design was so well received that it remained in the new 2016 revamped version of the site! Up until the early 2020s with their third redesign of the site.

Problems

The platform's search was not very helpful. It was confusing. It did not always return the results you were looking for. Most particularly, there was no way to refine the search.

Opportunity

Users should be able to find what they're looking for. They should be able to refine the search according to categories.

Early Wireframes

Initially, I prepared three different approaches to present to the team for review and approval.

Final Wireframes

Upon continued refinement, the project went in a more simpler direction. At first, Adobe insisted on showing thumbnails, but after looking over my wireframes they preferred no thumbnails.

Upon completion and approval, the final drafts were forwarded to the developers to implement. Colored comps weren't necessary since Education Exchange already has an established style guide.

Final Layout

The final version boasts a fully featured search layout. Every search result includes snippets of helpful information. The user can filter and refine results by any genre.
